Casey's General Store to open in Huntington

By Jennifer Peryam - jperyam@h-ponline.com

Casey’s General Store will open in February in Huntington on Flaxmill Road.

Groundbreaking for the gas station and store that is being built at 1374 Flaxmill Road began October 2. The store will open Feb. 16, according to Darren Moga, construction manager. It is next to Schenkel’s Dairy.

The 4,000 square-foot building will house a convenience store adjacent to 14 gas pumps.

“What Casey’s looks for is smaller communities and towns because they like the hometown feeling and we try to stick with communities of 7,500 or less,” Moga said.

Casey’s are located in 15 states currently. The 2,000th store opened last month. There are fewer than 100 Casey’s stores in Indiana.

The store will hire managers, cooks and general employees. Interested candidates can apply by visiting caseys.com to apply.

The menu at the general store will include pizza, subs, donuts, muffins, chicken nuggets and potato fries. There also will be burgers and sandwiches, salads and breakfast sandwiches. Beverage offerings will include 20 soda flavors, four slushie flavors, cappuccino, coffee and hot chocolate machines, and soft serve ice cream.

Lawrence Building Corp., Fort Wayne, is the construction company for the project.

“We are very excited about coming to Huntington and it’s close to my home in Fort Wayne,” Moga said.

Josh Nunez, district manager, also said Casey’s is excited to come to Huntington. He will oversee Huntington’s store as well as 40 other stores in Indiana.

“Huntington is part of the small town communities that Casey’s focuses on,” Nunez said. “Casey’s has a home town feel and we are part of the community.”

Nunez said Casey’s is involved in the community by partnering with schools and businesses to make sure the Casey’s team integrates with the community.

Store hours will be 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and could be open longer depending on demand.
