Filing begins for May primary

By Jennifer Peryam - jperyam@h-ponline.com

Filing begins Wednesday for a number of Huntington county seats.

Candidates can file at the Huntington County Clerk’s office at the courthouse from Wednesday to Feb. 9 at noon.

Filing is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the courthouse at 201 N. Jefferson St., according to Kitty Keiffer, Huntington County Clerk.

The primary is May 8, and the election is Nov. 6.

“Every voter has the chance to vote for those they want in that position and who they feel will do the best job in that position,” Keiffer said.

Those who file for the positions have skills they feel will benefit the county, Keiffer added.

People can see who files by visiting the county’s website at huntington.in.us and visit the clerks office and elections tabs.

She said campaigns will begin after candidates have declared their intentions to run.

Seats up for election are prosecuting attorney, circuit court judge, county assessor, county auditor, county clerk, county recorder, county sheriff, county surveyor, county commissioner: first district, (Clear Creek, Warren, Jackson and Dallas); county council, 1st through fourth districts; all township trustees and all township advisory boards.

Other positions are Markle, Roanoke and Warren Town Councils, state convention delegates including 14 republicans and 10 democrats.

On the general ballot in November only are school board: District 2, District 3 and District 5.

People who have questions can call the clerk’s office at 260-358-4817.
