The Huntington North Music Department announced several upcoming performances, including a fall concert Wednesday, Oct. 9.

The Marching Vikes received third place in their first competition at Bluffton. The week after the Bluffton competition, they won first place at Norwell along with all caption awards including: best visual, best music, and best general effect.

The Marching Vikes placed seventh at Penn High School in Mishawaka, which hosts the largest marching band invitational in the state of Indiana, and received the highest score at the competition in the band’s history of participation.

Upcoming competitions for the Marching Vikes include the Homestead Open Invitational on Oct. 5 with a 4:45 p.m. performance, the ISSMA Invitational at Homestead on Oct. 12 with a 7 p.m. performance, and ISSMA Regionals at Lafayette Jefferson on Oct. 19 with a 6:30 p.m. performance.

If the Marching Vikes qualify, they will advance on to the ISSMA Semi-State competition in Indianapolis.

On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band and four HNHS Choirs (Viking Chorale, Concert Choir, Viking Volume and Varsity Singers) will present a concert in the Huntington North Auditorium at 7 p.m. Admission to the concert is $5 for students and adults.

The community is invited to a free performance on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m., where the Marching Vikes will perform their 2019 Competition Show at Kreigbaum Field.

The Marching Vikes will also be performing at several national monuments in Washington, D.C. as the nation celebrates Veterans Day November 10 and 11.

The Varsity Singers completed two days of performances at the Pioneer Festival and are already at work, along with Viking Volume, Varsity Brass and Viking Brass, in preparation for Pomp & Plenty in November.

This year’s Pomp & Plenty show is entitled Just Push Play: An 80s Mixtape, and features a celebration of the music and culture of the from the 1980s. There are two chances to see the show on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. and Sunday Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.

The Pomp & Plenty performances will also feature the Crestview & Riverview Choirs at the Saturday performance as well as the Huntington County Children’s Choir at the Sunday performance.

Tickets go on sale at the end of October. The 2019 performances will feature a special VIP dessert option that includes reserved seating and priority entrance.
