Reading, stargazing and fishing

- Article provided

The Andrews, Huntington, Markle, Roanoke and Warren public libraries are joining up with Indiana DNR this June to host a Summer Library Program kick-off party for all Huntington County residents.

The Summer Stargazing Party will take place Saturday, June 1, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Kil-So-Quah Boat Ramp at Roush Lake in Huntington. The event is for all ages.

Each library will bring a variety of activities, including hands-on DIY crafts, a three-legged race, corn hole, book walk, life-size tic tac toe game, and more. The DNR will provide a limited number of fishing poles for those interested in trying their hand at fishing.

A joint-library story time for the entire family will take place at 8 p.m., and the Fort Wayne Astronomical Society will lead a late-night star and deep space objects viewing session starting around 9:30 p.m.

Residents of all ages are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs, a picnic meal, and their entire family, including leashed pets. Participants can bring their own outdoor grill (using propane or wood) or fishing gear. June 1 is an Indiana Free Fishing Day, so all ages are free to fish without requiring a fishing license.

This event is free and anyone is welcome to attend, regardless of whether they have a library card or even live in the area.

The Andrews-Dallas Township Public Library’s summer program for all ages takes place June 1 through July 20.

The Huntington City-Township Public Library and the Markle Branch Library’s all-ages program also kicks off June 1 but runs through July 27.

The Roanoke Public Library’s summer program takes place Tuesdays June 11 through July 23 at 10 a.m. for ages 2-6 and at 2 p.m. for ages 7-12. The Warren Public Library’s summer all ages program runs June 3 through July 13 (children) and August 31 (adults).
