Let Fetters continue to improve Huntington

We live in a great country and, at least from my standpoint, a great little Midwestern city.

I've been in Huntington now for more than 25 years. I've known many leaders of our community personally, and most have led from love of this place and a desire to do right by it. But seven years of Brooks Fetters' leadership has enhanced the condition and quality of this little town remarkably.

Being a small town mayor today, in Indiana or many other places, is not for the faint of heart. But Brooks has shown a wonderful combination of energy and talent that has helped us get and keep more good jobs while retaining much new business amid the churn and freedom of corporate owners seeking cheaper places to operate. He's shrunk government's size and payrolls, not to hurt employees, but to help all taxpayers make this a more attractive and affordable place to call home. He's managed budgets well for seven years and built budgets, not deficits. He's begun tackling downtown blight, renovating ugly structures that now enhance and adorn the life of the city. He's improved parks, removed run-down structures, and led a municipal culture that models "service to Huntington."

There may be other good people out there to lead our city, but Brooks has done such a wonderful job, why would we change horses while crossing a turbulent stream?

Here's to Brooks Fetters in 2019.
