The Huntington North boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Marion Sectional meet on Saturday morning at Indiana Wesleyan University’s cross country course, with the boys finishing in third place and the girls finishing second.

With their performances, both teams will advance to next weekend’s Regional meet, despite Saturday’s muggy conditions.

Senior Brock Spahr paced the boys team, finishing with a time of 17:05, good for third place in the race, 58 seconds off the pace of Mississinewa’s Brennan Butche.

Senior Drew Davis and junior Isaiah Clampitt both finished within the top 15 with times of 18:06 and 18:17, respectively, good for 13th and 15th place.

Freshman Harrison Niswander and senior Alexander Bishop finished the Vikings’ scorecard with times of 18:36 and 18:43, respectively.

The group combined to give Huntington North an overall team rank of 80 with a total team time of 1:30:50, good enough to claim third place in the contest.

Sophomore Connor Miller and senior Jarid Miller also competed, recording times of 18:50 and 18:57, respectively, good for 26th and 28th place. The duo’s times did not factor into Huntington North’s score, as only the top five runners’ times as recorded.

The girls were led by senior Alena Miller, who finished third in the girls race with a time of 20:44.

Sophomore Hanna Whitney turned in a time of 21:27, claiming the 6th-fastest time. Senior Kyler Hoopingarner recorded a 22:24 finish, good for 12th place.

Sophomore Lesley Zook also claimed a spot in the top 20 at 18th with a time of 23:48. Sophomore Naomi Richison rounded out the Vikings’ score with a 21st-place finish in 24:15.

Huntington North’s overall team rank of 56 comfortably gave them second place in the meet with a total team time of 1:52:40.

Senior Elizabeth Nalliah’s 25:06 time earned her a 31st-place finish, but her time did not factor into Huntington North’s totals, as Nalliah was the sixth Viking to cross the finish line.

The boys and girls cross country teams will return to the course on Oct. 13 for the Regional meet, again held at Indiana Wesleyan’s cross country course. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
