Arrest made in stabbing case

by Andrew Maciejewski - amaciejewski@h-ponline.com

Police arrested a Huntington man, Tuesday, in connection to the stabbing at Evergreen Park that hospitalized a man Monday, according to the Huntington Police Department.

Cristian N. Shepperd, 22, is facing a Level 3 felony charge of attempted robbery and a Level 5 felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon. HPD Chief Chad Hacker said police arrested Shepperd around 6 p.m. and verified that Shepperd was the individual who was transported to police headquarters for questioning following the incident.

Hacker said investigators do not believe the stabbing was a random attack, adding that Shepperd was an “acquaintance” to the victim. Hacker said there are no other suspects involved in the case that police know of at this time but said the investigation is ongoing.

The victim suffered multiple stab wounds and was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in serious condition after 7 p.m. Monday but is now in stable condition, according to HPD. Hacker said the victim’s name will be released, but the victim’s identity has not been released as of deadline Tuesday as police continue to investigate the incident.

Shepperd is currently in custody at the Huntington County Jail. An initial trail date and bond have not been filed as of deadline Tuesday. Huntington County Prosecutor Amy Richison said the case will be filed with the Huntington County Circuit Court.

The Herald-Press will continue to update the story as the investigation develops.
