PUTT: Huntington North’s Amara Eckert putts the ball on hole No. 18 during last week’s Huntington North Invitational.

Staff reports

The Huntington North girls’ golf team continued its strong start to the 2018 season on Saturday at the East Noble Invitational.

Behind Amara Eckert’s personal-best round of 74, giving her medalist honors on the day, the Vikings took first place with a score of 348.

“(I’m) really happy for all 12 of these girls,” Huntington North head coach Ron Vinson said in an e-mail to the Herald Press. “They are putting the time in and are now starting to see what you can accomplish if you work hard.”

Northwood placed second with a score of 354, Warsaw was second with a 359 while Concord and Lakeland finished with matching scores of 360.

Elkhart Central finished with a 382, Plymouth a 410, East Noble a 416 and Goshen a 422.

Eckert fired an even-par 36 on the back nine of Cobblestone Golf Course while shooting a 2-over 38 on the front nine.

Laura Ham took third individually with a round of 82 to follow Eckert. Crosley Stanley and Danielle Gonser finished with scores of 96 and 97, respectively, while Grace Dill had a non-scoring round of 98.

The first-place finish at the East Noble Invitational comes after the Vikings took second at the Huntington North Invitational at Norwood Golf Course on Wednesday to open the season.

Huntington North begins both dual match play and Northeast 8 Conference play this week.

The Vikings travel to Leo on Wednesday before taking part in the Concordia Invitational on Saturday. Wednesday’s contest is set for a 5 p.m. start time while the Concordia Invitational is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
