Daugherty takes part in IBCA Showcase

THREE: Huntington North’s Zach Daugherty shoots a three-pointer during a game earlier this season for the Vikings.

Staff reports

Huntington North guard Zach Daugherty took part in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Underclass Showcase on Monday.

Staged by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association with support from the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Underclass Showcase events are designed to give exposure to approximately 200 of the top basketball prospects (about 100 boys and about 100 girls) from across the state to colleges across the state and nation.

The showcase featured an all-day agenda that included three sessions of games with workout stations as well.

Last season for the Vikings Daugherty averaged 9.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.7 assists per game in 26.6 minutes. Daugherty shot 47 percent from the field, 39 percent from behind the arc and 85 percent from the free throw line.

Daugherty’s top performance this season came in an overtime win over New Haven in a non-conference clash. Daugherty finished with 20 points, his season-high, to go along with four assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Daugherty also hit some big shots for Huntington North all season long. In the second game of the season, Daugherty’s steal and lay-up clinched a win on the road against Mississinewa. One week later, Daugherty knocked down a pair of fourth-quarter three-pointers to help the Vikings fend off a feisty Southwood team and earn a win at home.

His biggest shot, though, came against Plymouth where Daugherty’s buzzer-beating three-pointer gave Huntington North a 51-48 win late in the season. Daugherty finished with 16 points in the contest and a season-high four three-pointers made.

With Daugherty anchoring the backcourt, the Vikings finished with a 19-7 record, a 4-3 conference record and a spot in the sectional title game.

Daugherty was named to the All-Conference First Team on the season along with teammate Mitchell Geller.

Five members of the Northeast 8 Conference will take part in the Showcase in Daugherty, Bellmont’s Kade Fuelling, Norwell’s Will Geiger and East Noble’s Hayden Jones and Ali Ali.
