Relay for Life events set

by Andrew Maciejewski - amaciejewski@h-ponline.com

Relay for Life’s Rockin’ ‘Round the Clock for Relay will begin Saturday at noon at Krieghbaum Field.

Organizers hope to raise at least $53,000 during the event, and Vickie Kiefer said they’ve raised $50,000 so far. Proceeds from the event will go to Relay for Life Huntington County to aide the American Cancer Society. Organizers encourage the public to attend for free.

Former news channel chief meteorologist Curtis Smith will open the event with a speech followed by a survivor celebration and Eunice Coats Awards at 12:30 p.m. There will also be a hula-hoop contest, cake walks, donut eating contest, lip-sync battles, dance aerobics, cornhole contests and more activies, including live music. Teams will sell food throughout the event along with survivor ornaments, jewelry, books and homemade items. At 10 p.m., a luminaria ceremony and fight back ceremony will be held before the closing ceremony at 11:45 p.m.
