Viking tennis drops NE8 finale

Huntington North’s girls’ tennis team split its pair of contests to end the week, which included the Northeast 8 Conference finale.

On Thursday, Huntington North battled Norwell with the Vikings falling 3-2.

Wins for the Vikings came at No. 3 singles from Tarah Zumbrun, 6-2, 6-2, and the duo of Macy Wohlford and Jule Nogaj 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 1 singles, Jessica Henline lost 3-6, 2-6 while Kassidy Thompson fell 4-6, 4-6 at No. 2 singles. The team of Braxtyn Maroney and Leann Ringenberg fell 4-6, 1-6 at No. 2 doubles.

On Friday, Huntington North bounced back with a 3-2 win over South Adams.

Henline picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles as did the No. 1 doubles duo of Wohlford and Nogaj 6-0, 6-2 and the No. 2 doubles duo of Maroney and Ringenberg 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 2 singles, Thompson lost 5-7, 2-6 while Zumbrun fell 6-2, 4-6, 1-6 at No. 3 singles.

Track

At home on Thursday, the Huntington North boys’ track team hosted a three-way meet with Homestead and Fort Wayne North Side.

The Spartans took first on the night with 95 points while Huntington North finished with 52 and North Side 20.

The lone victories for the Vikings came in the 3,200-meter relay and in the long jump. In the former, Brock Spahr, Aaron Hendryx and Nolan Young took first, second and third, respectively. The long jump saw Ricky Haught take first with a leap of 19’7.5”.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Nate Burns took second with a time of 41.54 to take third and move into the top ten fastest times in school history in the event.
