Terri Boone is seeking a fifth term as Huntington County assessor.

Boone, 58, Huntington, is unopposed on the May 8 primary ballot. She has served as assessor since 2002. She served as deputy assessor from 1979 to 2002.

Boone is a 1978 Huntington North High School graduate. She started working in the assessor’s office right after high school.

Boone said back then property sketches were drawn on cards, but now the information is computerized.

“We put values on real estate and personal properties. We are governed by the department of local government finance,” Boone said. She has to adhere to laws that change every year.

She said the values need to be done in a time efficient manner.

Boone said she enjoys working for the public.

If re-elected her goals are to be educated and make sure work is done in a timely manner. She said county council likes to look at figures in the budget by summer time so they know what expenses they have.

Boone said Huntington is one of the top counties in the state to have deadlines met in a timely fashion.

“Our staff is like family. When one of is down we pick each other up and we are really close,” Boone said.

She said she has worked with the same staff since she first ran for assessor.

Born and raised in Huntington County, Boone said she likes the small town and that everyone knows everyone.

“I feel safe in this community and never moved away,” Boone said.

She is widowed and has a son, Derek, who is principal at Huntington Catholic School, and a daughter, Tara, who is a teacher at Huntington North High School. Boone has one granddaughter.
