Local minister leads House invocation

STATEHOUSE INVOCATION: Left to right, Judy Young, Dr. Sam Young, of Huntington’s Central Christian Church, and State Rep. Dan Leonard (R-Dist. 50) met on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, in the House Chamber at the Statehouse. Young led the prayer before the start of official legislative business.

INDIANAPOLIS — Dr. Sam Young of Huntington’s Central Christian Church offered the invocation before the Indiana House was called to order Jan. 23, 2018, at the Statehouse.

State Rep. Dan Leonard’s (R-Dist. 50) welcomed Young and his wife, Judy, to the Statehouse where they also met other state leaders and witnessed session proceedings.

“Sam and Judy are good people who have devoted their lives to their faith,” Leonard said. “I’m thankful the Young’s made the trip to the Statehouse and honored the House with the day’s invocation.”

Throughout 42 years of ministry spanning four congregations, Young served as senior pastor and Judy sang and played organ. From 2002-2009, he pastored at Central Christian Church and spent his entire ministry in Indiana, also serving at Anderson’s East Lynn Christian Church, Logansport’s Ninth Street Christian Church and Bargersville’s Providence Christian Church.

Lawmakers invite religious leaders from their communities to start legislative proceedings with a prayer before each day of session.
